There is more ghostly goings on and scary scenes in James Wan’s Insidious: Chapter 2. We have the review right here.
The second horror film of 2013 to come from director James Wan after The Conjuring; Insidious: Chapter 2 follows on from 2010’s scary hit. Rose Byrne, and Patrick Wilson are back to try and protect their children from malevolent forces after they move into Josh’s (Wilson) mother’s house.
It makes your heart race and scares in all the right places.
Unlike the first instalment, Chapter 2 features settings a different timelines, as we see Josh as a young boy and a younger Elise (different actress dubbed with Lin Shaye’s voice) trying cure him of his sleep astral projection.
Wan doesn’t half like to use harmless children’s toys and objects against us. A simple tin can telephone becomes a way to contact the dead, a series of rocking horses rocking in unison and, the one that all parents can relate with, hearing strange noises and cries on a baby monitor.
For those who have seen the first Insidious, you will be aware that Josh’s body is now occupied by another being and that Josh is stuck in limbo – known as ‘The Further’ – trying to find a way back to the living world to be with his family. He is not alone though as the spirit of Elise is among him, along with many evil spirits.
Along with the aforementioned The Conjuring, Insidious: Chapter 2 shows that Wan is on top of his game when it comes to a good ole scare. We have another 100 minutes of thrills, jumping moments and set-pieces that are bound to give you goosebumps.
Overall Thoughts:
Insidious: Chapter 2 does what it sets out to do; it makes your heart race and scares in all the right places. Better than what other critics made out, the film is a must watch for all horror fans, although the time travel segments are a little strange.
