The Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is to be turned into a movie trilogy according to reports.
The book may have been released in 2001 as described as a text book used in Hogwarts, but Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is getting its own series of films. We had originally thought it would be adapted into just one film, but that will now be a trilogy. The reason behind this decision will most likely be due to the huge success of The Hobbit. That book was large enough for just one film, but has been expanded into three large movies to rival Peter Jackson’s early The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
According to an interview in The New York Times with Warner Bros’ CEO Kevin Tsujihara, Fantastic Beasts will be neither a prequel nor a sequel to the beloved Harry Potter series, and will be set in New York 70 years before the events of The Philospher’s Stone (Sorcerer’s Stone for our American readers).
Also, according to reports, J.K. Rowling wrote the first draft of the screenplay in just 12 days, which is an achievement in itself.
More on Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them once we have it.
