Edge of Tomorrow review (2014)

Tom Cruise is forced to relive the same day over and over in the sci-fi blockbuster Edge of Tomorrow. We review the movie right here.

Let’s be honest, the name ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ sounds a little generic, and although Tom Cruise is an established action star, the film may not appeal to some. Well, if those people believe that the film will be average at best, I can happily say they are wrong.

Edge of Tomorrow sees Tom Cruise as Major Cage, a man who has made his way up the ranks due to being a smooth talker rather than spending time in combat. The planet is overrun by alien beasts after a meteorite crash landed and the human race has its back to the proverbial wall. Thanks to Brendan Gleeson’s General Brigham, Cruise is sent to the front line, something he really doesn’t want to do.

Cruise then goes to war but, after an encounter with a large Alpha alien, he is killed, only to wake up at the start of that day once again. This basically means he is invincible, in a Groundhog Day like fashion. He believes he is alone in this futuristic nightmare, that is until Emily Blunt comes into the picture.edge of tomorrow poster

Edge of Tomorrow features some great special effects and a tight script courtesy of Christopher McQuarrie (the man behind the screenplay for The Usual Suspects). Doug Liman also does a brilliant job on directing duties. Tom Cruise once again shows us that he is deservedly the biggest star in the world and the beautiful Emily Blunt does excellent as a bad ass female soldier.

Edge of Tomorrow is probably the best and most original sci-fi movie since Looper and deserves your time. Give it a watch, now!
