A group of terrorists have taken over a skyscraper, and it’s up to Detectives John Kennix and Dorian to save the day. Almost Human episode 3 review after the jump.
May contain spoilers.
We start the episode with a gang of terrorists entering a skyscraper, killing the security guard at the front desk and then taking the twenty-fifth floor. Their demands are pretty simple – they want transport on the roof and a megaton bomb. Also no police are allowed in the building.
Almost Human does a great job of mixing action and humour effortlessly
Unfortunate for them, John Kennix (Karl Urban) and Dorian (Michael Ealy) are already inside and make their way up via the stairwell.
What we get then is an episode that is similar to Die Hard but with futuristic technology. The detectives soon find out that the terrorists aren’t what they seem, and neither is their agenda.
Once the terrorists find out that Kennix and Dorian are in the building, they send men to guard the stairwells, forcing the detectives to come up with another plan to halt their agenda.
Kennix has now become a lot more likeable since the first episode. Yes, he is still a bad ass who wants to take down the bad guys as soon as possible, but he still has a heart, as see with him calming down a hostage via an interesting phone conversation from within the building.
Dorian shows more of his feelings too and we can understand where the title of the show came from. He may be an android but, unlike the other synthetics on the force, Dorian has feelings and is worried about dying. He is ‘almost human’.
Almost Human does a great job of mixing action and humour effortlessly. The effects look good, the acting is good and the set-pieces are good.
Overall Thoughts:
Almost Human episode 3 has action, laughs and great effects. The terrorist/hostages in a building plotline is nothing new, but the show puts a new spin on proceedings and we certainly enjoyed it.
