ABCs of Death 2 review (2014)

After last year’s utterly bizarre collection of short horror films,  ABCs of Death returns for a sequel. Is it better than the original? Find out here.

It’s fair to say, The ABCs of Death talked a good game but it was monumentally let down by the contrast of talent working on each segment. Some of the shorts that featured last year were rather good, but for every D is for Dogfight we also had a terrible section that relied on farting, penises and vaginas.

So, when we heard about the sequel, we weren’t that excited. Well, let’s get it out there first…The ABCs of Death 2 is overall better than the predecessor. Gone are the vaginas, penises and farting and in its place we now have a selection of pretty well made short horrors.abcs of death 2

Of course, there is still a contrast of talent within, but the majority of the shorts are pretty decent. A lot had been said about the Soska Sisters directing a segment, but their T is for Torture Porn isn’t all that good. Sure it looks ok, but the effect they went for didn’t satisfy.

We enjoyed the likes of B is for Badger, F is for Falling, I is for Invincible and the humorous E is for Equilibrium. Our favourite though would be M is for Masticate. The producers of the film held a competition – create a short using the letter M. Many filmmakers throughout the world went to work, but Robert Boocheck won overall and his short is probably the best in the whole film.

We enjoyed ABCs of Death 2 but there is still room for improvement. A tip for any contributors for ABCs of Death 3 (if they make it), you don’t need to gross out to stand out.
