Rupert Sanders to direct live-action Ghost in the Shell

Yes, you read the article’s title correctly – Ghost in the Shell. A live action version of the classic manga film is to be directed by the same man who made Snow White and the Huntsman.

According to a report by Deadline, Rupert Sanders has been chosen by Dreamworks to direct a live action version of Ghost in the Shell. Created by Masamune Shirow, Ghost in the Shell revolves around a cover task force who deal in cybercrime. The success of the animated film then brought us sequels, cartoons and video games. ghost in the shell

Dreamworks purchased the rights to Ghost in the Shell back in 2008. Laeta Kalogridis (Shutter Island) was brought in to write the screenplay, but that has been scrapped along with a few other drafts from various writers. William Wheeler, who wrote 2012’s The Reluctant Fundamentalist, has now been brought in to write the script.

Sanders’ debut feature was Snow White and the Huntsman which starred Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth. It didn’t go down well with the critics, but visually it was a treat. He also made a pitch video for Black Hole, to hopefully be able to do a full version of the comic book adaption.

More on this when we have it.
