Cameron hails GRAVITY as the best space film of all time

September 4, 2013 By Carl Burgess Leave a Comment

It may not hit our screens until November, yet Gravity is gaining some fantastic early reviews, with James Cameron going on to say it is the best space movie of all time.

Starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney; Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity is one of the most eagerly anticipated films to be released at the back-end of this year. It was recently shown at the Venice Film Festival to heaps of praise. Now James Cameron, director of sci-fi classics such as Aliens, The Terminator (and its sequel) and Avatar, has gone on to say it is the best space film ever.

I was stunned, absolutely floored,” said Cameron. “I think it’s the best space photography ever done, I think it’s the best space film ever done, and it’s the movie I’ve been hungry to see for an awful long time.

“I read the script, and I thought it was tremendously challenging to shoot with a high degree of veracity to get the real look of zero gravity. I’m sure Alfonso had a real uphill battle with the studio, with everyone involved, to get it the way it needed to look. But he knew in his mind how it needed to look, and he went after it.”

That is quite a compliment when you think about other space-themed movies that have come before it. Such films as 2001: A Space Odyssey, Star Wars and Alien.

Gravity is set to open in the US on October 4th and the UK on November 8th.
