It’s been confirmed, Dwayne Johnson will play a character in the DC cinematic universe, only thing is, we don’t know if it will be Shazam or Black Adam.
Making the move from professional wrestler to bona fide action star look easy, The Rock Dwayne Johnson is one of the biggest stars on the silver screen today. Currently in the cinemas with Hercules, Johnson has confirmed that he will indeed be playing a comic book character for DC.
He told USA Today “I am putting my heart and soul and my bones into this role,” We just don’t know for sure if I will be Shazam or his arch villain Black Adam, nor do we know if it will be a one off performance or if he will be back for more films and possibly feature in the Justice League film. Seeing as Johnson has a track record of turning falling franchises into box office monsters (see G.I. Joe and Fast & Furious), we reckon he could have a multi0film contract.
Shazam, for those who don’t read the comics, is an orphaned buy with the ability to turn himself into an adult super hero by just shouting the words ‘Shazam’. Whilst Black Adam, Johnson’s personal favourite character, is a villain who wants world domination (don’t they all?) with magical powers.
The film Shazam is set for release in July 2016. Interestingly, that is also the same month that Marvel’s Doctor Strange is rumoured to be released.
