Even though their remake of Evil Dead was a success, both Fede Alvarez and co-writer Rodo Sayagues have pulled out of the sequel, Evil Dead 2.
Many people were shocked and surprised at the remake of The Evil Dead when it was released earlier this year. The gore-tastic movie received some rave reviews and many fans ended up more than satisfied. The film made an $80 million profit on its budget and a sequel seemed inevitable.
That is why it’s very surprising to hear the news that director Fede Alvare and co-writer Rod Sayagues have left the sequel.
“Look, I am sorry to tell you this but that movie won’t happen,” said Sayagues to Shock Till You Drop. “Evil Dead 2 is not going to happen, at least not with us involved.”
“We left that project many months ago because we preferred to put our energies on other things. I don’t know if the producers still have intentions of making it. But what I can tell you is that we are not part of that project.”
Although it is sad news, we still fully expect a sequel to be made, especially since the first was a cash cow for Ghosthouse Pictures. Who will jump into the director’s chair now? That is the question.
